President Alvarado & President Galan Visit Dominica

President Jorge Alvarado and Waldo Galan, second counselor in the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission, arrived at Melville Hall Airport on the island of Dominica at 5:05 p.m., Friday, 27 August 2010.
Fort Young Hotel in Roseau was their digs for two nights. The Hadlock Santa Femobile was their chariot and Elder Hadlock their personal chauffeur. They came, they saw, they conquered ...... and they returned to Puerto Rico to face Hurricane Earl and all his cousins that followed at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, 29 August 2010.

Portsmouth Priesthood Interviews

Owen Carbon, recently endowed member, was happy to say "CHEESE" for the camera! President Bradley J Cook, Owen Carbon, Elder Hadlock and ??, a medical student at Ross University, wait in the chapel area of the Portsmouth Branch building while Pres. Alvarado and Pres. Galan interview Melchizedek holders.

Mission Presidency Visits Roseau Sunday Morning

8:30 a.m. Sunday was very early for members and investigators to attend Sacrament Meeting in Roseau but by the end the 'chapel' was full. ........ Oops! How did that 'enduring-to-the-end picture from Saturday sneak in here? Maybe so Sister Hadlock can be counted among the numbers???

Ants' Picnic

While we were preparing for the picnic at Coconut Beach the ants were preparing a picnic of their own! (For perspective purposes, the floor tile is 10-inch.) Don't know whether this dead bug they're carrying off is to be their entree or dessert, but we're hoping perhaps it might be POISON!!!

Elliot Rolle

Elliot Rolle and his daughter Genevieve, who recently graduated from LSU, stopped by with a "tiler" who repaired the upstairs apartment shower!!! Mr. Rolle's leg was amputated due to complications of diabetes. His optimism and positive attitude have helped his recovery and been a blessing in our Dominican home.
Elder Hadlock, being aware that Mr. Rolle is a great fan of Karl Malone, shared with him some Karl Marlone trivia!

Surprise Bread w/WALNUTS

Any guesses as to what the strange green things on our counter might be? Animal? Vegetable? What??? Definitely not animal!
Peelings in the sink indicate it must be vegetable.....a prickly outside and sticky inside vegetable, called Christophene, which leaves a glue-like substance on your hands that is difficult to remove if you have no gloves.
Once Christophene is peeled and cored and shredded.............
........ it's a fine substitute for zucchini to be made into delicious loaves of Chrisophene Bread with WALNUTS from Costco! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! YUM!!!

Antigua & Isles of the Sea Zone

Antigua is known as the Caribbean island of beautiful white-sand beaches. Perhaps you'll agree.
The pool area and grounds outside Hadlock's Antigua Village room was lush with tropical trees and shrubs of many kinds.

A not too distant island was visible from the white-sand shoreline of Antigua Village.
Elder & Sister Vinas and Sister and President Alvarado listened intently as Zone Leaders sang "We'll Bring the World His Truth."
There was time for camaraderie and picture-taking after a morning of serious training and counsel by President Alvarado and Elder Vinas.

But all too soon it was time to leave the camaraderie we all craved. Elder Daniels (left), as the designated driver of this rental van, drove Sister & Elder Case.....
...... Elders Maldonado and Schmutz and Elder & Sister Hadlock to the airport for their respective return flights to St. Kitts and Dominica.... And the first ever Isles of the Sea Zone Conference was over.

Anisha Labad

Anisha Labad was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, 14 August 2010, in the Caribbean Sea near Pottersville, Roseau, Dominica. A short baptismal service was held prior to the baptism at the home of Elder & Sister Hadlock, which at the present time is also the meeting place for the Roseau Group.

CRABBY neighbor?

We see this crabby old neighbor almost every morning on our way to exercise but he/she usually runs away and hides. He/she lives in a hole by the side of the gutter that runs along the sidewalk beside our house. Wednesday morning he/she stayed out long enough for us to go inside for the camera and snap a picture or two. By the way, is it "Crab Festival" time at Red Lobster? Would anyone want to eat our crabby neighbor???

Missionary Transfers

Elder Jackson received word Tuesday evening he was being transerred from Dominica to Puerto Rico Wednesday. Packing wasn't easy! Leaving a place you've learned to love and two scheduled baptisms--especially when they're the first baptisms since you arrived--can't be easy! But, Elder Jackson took it like the faithful, obedient missionary he is. He managed to lighten his load by the thirteen pounds his luggage was overweight and was off on a new adventure.

Elder Maldonado waited patiently with the Hadlocks for the arrival of his new companion from Antigua.

Elder Schmutz managed to make it through customs despite the customs officer who likes nothing better than to give missionaries a difficult time!
Elder Maldonado had a plan for their first companionship teaching appointment Thursday after lunch at the Hadlocks.

Orange Juice

ORANGES? Look more like GREENS! At any rate, nine ugly oranges.....

a sharp knife, plastic cutting board, bowl, colander, blender .... and WAH-LAH! You have this much juice......

..... and this much pulp! After all the work, and all the mess, and all the ants, the 'juiceress' decided maybe paying the EC$29+ for an outdated carton of Tropicana might be the way to go????

"OK! Lunch is ready." Michael George is happy to be first in line!
Ronald Rossi is very polite and content to wait. Ronald is an investigator who says he wants to be baptized. He brought sandwiches he'd asked his sister to make for him. The young generation loved the sandwiches!

Some were obedient and ate their lunch outside on the veranda.
Hermine enjoyed every bite!
