General Conference, Roseau Teacher-Training and Seminary Classes

A few of the faithful gathered Saturday, 2 April 2011, for the first two sessions of the General Conference broadcast . . . . . .. . . . . . to listen and to sing, and . . . .
. . . . . . . . to catch a few winks!

From opening hymn, through the lesson and on to refreshments, those invited participate in the Teacher Training Course held Thursday evenings at the 'church'.

Catch this sweet scene in the backyard seminary classroom where Sister Marina teaches Hermine Sergius Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Old Stone Bar & Grill

After having been disappointed in finding eating establishments open before 7:00 p.m., we stumbled upon the Old Stone Bar & Grill and were pleased with their menu choices. Dean ordered "mahi-mahi" with salad and garlic bread.
The ladies all ordered "seafood medley" with different sides. Myrtle chose tomato salad and steamed vegetables.

Miscellaneious sights in and around . . . . .

If you were to spend time with us you could choose to visit points of interest or you could sit at a window or on the veranda and see such things as local "fish broth" . . . . .fresh fish (Ball-ow') sold by a fish monger, . . . . .
a friendly neighbor (Marcus's mother and one of her grandchildren), . . . .
supplies being unloaded at the noisy metal shop across the street, . . . . . .
Jack the exterminator who does his best to eliminate unwanted 'visitors', . . . . .
or drive a ways and view from above a cruise ship, (If you look closely at the tiny dot off what appears to be the end of the island you can see Scott's head, the tip of the tail of the parrot-shaped island of Dominica.)
which all but dwarfs the city of Roseau.
Or, you could walk a couple blocks up the hill and meet Cornelius Williams who feeds the birds and the bees every morning.

Carnival in Dominica

It may not be Carnival in Rio but if you like drums, color, noise and rum-punch, you'll like Carnival in Dominica!

Imagine! Someone immodest enough to show her petticoat!

Young or old or any where in between, Dominicans love to dress up and stut their stuff in the Carnival Parade!
